Do you find that you are no longer enjoying cooking?
Not eating properly? Or maybe you’re lonely and having a hard time getting out of your home to visit. Are you feeling isolated…or bored?
As a ‘tour guide’ for a seniors’ home, I find that many people have at least one of the above concerns. Another big concern for some people reaching the age where they are considering a down size is what seniors homes used to look like. They are remembering the facilities that used to care for their own grandparents or parents. Thankfully we have come a long way and there really is very little, if any, comparison.
Retirement homes nowadays truly are ‘homes’. Not only do they offer comfortable and homey accommodations to call your own, but they are usually connected with many extras to make life easier and more fun. Many homes offer bus trips to shopping, medical appointments and recreational outings with your friends and neighbours.
Also included with most rents is weekly housekeeping with flat linen services, meals, lots of entertainment and recreation.
Depending on what you’re looking for, you can find places that offer fitness classes & equipment, gardening opportunities, musical entertainment, in-house libraries, hairdressing, coffee shops, crafts and a myriad of other services and amenities.
The best part about retirement homes nowadays is simply the lack of stress – no more shoveling snow (not that we get much in this part of the country), mowing lawns, cleaning house, constant shopping and food preparation, bill paying etc. And with all of that spare time, you can fill it with carefree visits with your family, friends & neighbours, playing cards, bingo, taking a painting class, watching a movie or travel slideshow.
There is so much fun and life in retirement homes – check one out and see for yourself; there is never an obligation and you will always get a feel when you walk through the door and see people enjoying themselves.
And, if you’re simply not ready yet, have a look anyways-see what’s available and give yourself some peace of mind for the future. Island living at it’s best!
