Rob’s Walkers

The AKANA Experience.

The Challenge.

Although Robert Anaka had been diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis (MS) some years before the crippling effects of its progression struck suddenly, and without warning.

In 2006 whilst getting up one morning he fell out of bed; he had lost control of his legs. He would never walk any distance unaided again. This was a devastating  blow not only to his every day activities but he was an avid outdoors enthusiast. His way of life was changed forever.

As a part of his rehabilitation he was advised by his Psychiatrist to focus on one of his hobbies, photography, as a way to still enjoy the beauty he enjoyed so much, the back country of Alberta.

Robert immediately discovered a major impediment to this. He could only walk with the aid of a walker and whilst all the walkers currently available are great for sidewalks and parking lots they are totally useless over rough terrain.  This was not the type of photography he wanted to do, he wanted to be able to get off the beaten track and get back into bush that he loved, the  mountains, the lakes and the creek beds.

The fight back.

Being the man that he is Robert couldn’t and wouldn’t accept this scenario.

His body may have imposed serious physical limitations upon him but his imagination, his focus and his determination were still intact; he was still Robert Anaka, he would find a way, and he did.

Over the ensuing years, which included moving to Vancouver Island, he persevered there had to be a way for him to walk on the beach, to walk in the woods, and there was.

Rob’s Walkers are designed and produced by Robert, has returned  the  freedom he so desperately wanted, and needed, not just for himself himself  but for others who face the same challenges.
It is adjustable for users of all ages.

The wait is over…
Watch Rob’s Walker in action
on the videos below.

With my new Rob’s Walker, I can again visit some of the trails and paths I use  to enjoy so much.

We often take our small dog walking with us.  I have found that if I turn the beach bag around and rest it on the seat, Jesse can ride in it when he gets tired, or stubborn.  I have purchased a second bag from Rob to hold the jackets, binoculars, etc.

Everyone is so happy to get out walking!
